Selecting Among Survival Knives

A little forethought and organization will payoff in a great memorable adventure for that next outdoors excursion you may have planned.

The older liquid gas lanterns give off just as much light but you will have to refill the tank with liquid gas and this can be messy as well as dangerous if you are not careful. Both types of lanterns use mantels so be sure to carry extras. That sounds pretty good eh! Can you smell that fresh air go on fill your lungs with it and oh! what's that lovely smell, somebody's cooking up a treat it always smells better outdoors don't you think.

Your chuck box can be a cardboard box with a lid or folding flaps. Put you dry goods in to this box salt ,pepper, cereal, potatoes, and What ever else you remove from the kitchen cupboard.

The first is that the survival knife should have a sturdy blade. It should be able to cut through almost anything. If it breaks, then the individual just waited a few dollars on some junk made of inferior quality. Get used to cooking over a wood fire and sharing your space with wildlife, before you venture too far away from the comforts of home.

The third is the weight of the survival knife. Some models are heavier than others and the only way to have a better grip is to get one that is easy to carry. The individual should go to a store and feel it with his hands to be sure this is the correct model to buy.

The person should also get a sheath for the survival knife. This will prevent injuries from happening and keep it sharp when it is not being used. Some of these may have special features such as a sharpening stone for the blade and a pocket holder to store some other small items. Survival knives can be purchased in any sporting goods store. The customer should examine it well to make sure there are no defects and ask for a warranty if there are problems encountered in the future.

If the owner of the store cannot provide this, it is best to look somewhere else because this could simply be a cheap "knock off" the real thing which is simply a waste of money. If you're bringing tins of beans, remember a manual can opener or pack your Swiss army knife. If you're not sure what to bring, ask an associate at your local sporting store to help you choose your camping needs. Call on friends who like to camp, and ask them for advice.

When you have your living accommodations prepared you must next look to the provisions you will take with you. What type of food and beverages will you need on a daily basis? Will you be preparing each meal cold or hot? You may also want to pack a couple days more provisions for any emergency that may arise.

As I rounded a bend blasted through granite, just wide enough to accommodate a horse-drawn wagon, I braked suddenly and gasped. Instead of going up to other campers and saying, "Hi, I'm Kerry and I'm here by myself" ask questions like "How can I contact you if I experience a problem?" or "Is this campground regularly patrolled?" Don't advertise you are by yourself by finding campsites away from walking trails.
