My project for Moving Gantry CNC Machine had hit a snag!
Because the moving gantry cnc machine was driven by 2 stepper motors for the x-axis, my full attention was focused on how to connect them from LinuxCNC software configured to my breakout board and then to the stepper motor boards.
After determining that I can assign another joint (stepper motor) to my x-axis and then configuring the software accordingly, my focus was on how to make the wiring connections identical for both motors. So I set out to use identical colors for the wires, but in my haste to make the setup work, I completely missed out on one critical procedure which was necessary for stepper motor drivers – “Make sure that the motors were connected before powering up the stepper motor drivers”. I only remembered this critical procedure to my dismay after the switch was thrown.
No smoke emerged. I only found out that my stepper motor drivers were damaged when I noticed that some LED lights were not functioning as normal and the motors were not responding to the commands. Unfortunately, I did not have any spare stepper motor driver board, so I just had to buy more online and wait for them to come.
While waiting, I decided to work on the wiring layout of the machine. Thus the cable trays were laid and drag chains were installed but the machine remained idle. The consignment of easy driver boards were actually delayed and I had asked the seller to send again.
Waiting for soooo long …..
